Chepets, Grigori Lazarevich (Ukrainian), b. 1916

Born in (Ukraine) 1916. Studied at Ekaterinoslav Art College; Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture 1930s-1941 (followed by military service 1942-45). Active in Leningrad. Important shows include “All-Union Art Exhibition”, Moscow, 1950, 1951; “Soviet Russia”, Moscow, 1960. Specialised in landscapes. Taught at Repin Institute from 1945. His one journey outside the USSR was to France, 1961, in the company of nine artists and three KGB minders; the artists were able to alcoholically subvert the minders, often enough for the trip to be fondly remembered. Died 1981.
