Sokolov, Nikolai Aleksandrovich (Russian), b. 1903

Born in Moscow 1903. Studied in Prolektkult art studio, Rybinsk, 1920-23; At Moscow VKhutemas/VKhutein 1923-29. Active in Moscow. began exhibiting no later than 1929. Imporrtant shows include "Artists of the Russian Federation over Fifteen Years", Leningrad, 1932; "All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow, 1946, 1947, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1955. Specialised in landscapes, portraits. Became a Soviet Academician, 1947. Also a graphic artist, as member of Kukryniksy, from 1924. Awarded Stalin prizes 1942, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951 (all as member of Kukryniksy); tow orders of Lenin.
