Zurab Nijaradze

Zurab Nijaradze was born in Tbilisi in 1928. At the age of 13 he started to attend painting classes under the guidance of Revaz Tarkhan –Mouravi, extremely talented graphic master. In 1948-55 studied in the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Since 1960 he started teaching there and became a Rector of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts.

He became "Honoured Artist of the Georgian Soviet Republic" and "Honoured Member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2004)".

His works are kept in the National Art Gallery,Tbilisi, Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, Russia, State Museum of Oriental Countries, Moscow,Russia, Contemporary Art Gallery in Rio de Janeiro and other private galleries and collections.

As an artist he represents pictorial tradition which in European art runs from Renaissance to Postimpressionism and Fauvism. The warm sensuality of his style made his paintings some of the most well-known in Georgia.
