Bughadze, Gia (Georgian), b. 1956

Gia Bughadze

Born in 1956, graduated from Tbilisi Academy of Arts.

A multi-award winning artist, writer, distinguished public speaker, Rector of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts.

He achieved early fame with the series of paintings called Life of Kartli (in different words History of Georgia). Since then he often painted mythological characters, and their ‘appearance’ – or, ‘embodiment’, or reincarnation feels as almost mystical.

He has been commissioned to design large panels for Tbilisi State University, Georgian Parliament and Bank of Georgia.

Author of several books: ‘Essays on Culture Studies’, ‘Thoughts about Going Away’ and ‘Dialogues with Monologue’.

His art is the visualisation of his interests - music, mythology, history… Rudolf Steiner and Goethe are the two main thinkers he comes across and evaluates.
